Jessica Nowlan is a social entrepreneur and movement leader focused on building the structures required to realize liberation.

From her personal experiences of surviving poverty, exploitation, and incarceration, Jessica has become a leader in the fight to end the criminalization of girls and women in California through the creation of new structures. Jessica served as the Executive Director of the Young Women’s Freedom Center for seven years, she co-founded the Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition as well as Beloved Housing, and she spearheaded the creation of the Freedom Charter, a document co-authored by over 400 formerly incarcerated women, girls, and gender-expansive people that clearly moves us away from mass incarceration and sets us on a path towards liberation.

Jessica founded this transformative organization to grow the work of Young Women’s Freedom Center, Sister Warriors, and Beloved Housing in addition to raising a fund to incubate business, invest back into her community, and shift the cultural narrative to showcase the power of women and girls like her.
